Cyber Attacks in China Targeted Yahoo

Cyber Attacks and China seems a bit linked, first Google and now Yahoo is under such attacks. The Foreign Correnpondents Club of China, also known as FCCC confirmed eight cases of Yahoo e-mail hacks recently. On the other hand Yahoo has condemned any kind of cyber attacks. Yahoo told when delivering a statement that they are ” committed to protecting user security and privacy”.

But in the same manner FCCC accused Yahoo of failing to update users about the problem. Some reporters told that they got some error when trying to login to their email account.

Credit card hacker Sentenced 20 years

Miami based Computer Expert, was jailed by a judge in US, for Stealing more than 130 million credit and debit card numbers. The Judge claimed it to be the largest and most costly example of hacking in the History of USA. The sentenced Hacker Albert Gonzalez pleaded guilty in september 2009.

Gonzalez was not alone in this act, he was accused with two russian co-conspirators, for hacking into retailer payment system. They used SQL injection attacks to take advantage of weaknesses within the system and hence stealing important information & credit/debit card information. These attacks included more than 250 US based companies. When asked Gonzalez claimed ” curiosity and addiction” as motive behind this.

Before getting sentenced for 20 years, Albert Gonzalez gave his expensive jewellery, Car and home and also $1 Million in cash which was burried in his parents garden.

Opera New build download available

Opera 10.50 has been under development for sometime now. We had a new build at the start of this month. The build had some issues with some proxy server settings as was reported by end users. Opera Software released the latest major iteration of its browser, bringing to the table a number of enhancements pertaining to JavaScript performance, web standards compliance and a GUI redesign. Since March 2nd, the Norwegian browser maker has already delivered the first update, and is working on a second refresh, designed to further soften some of the rough edges of Opera.

Currently you can download the 10.52 build 3333, but its now the full version. The browser is currenly in beta. Opera 10.52 is made for offer=ing enhanced performance with javascript based web applets & with overall increase in browsing experience.

“In this build, there is a possible fix for some network problems when using proxies. The same fix might improve on the ‘Waiting for DNS confirmation of cookie domain(s)’ message some people are seeing (try clearing cookies if the problem persists). There is also an attempt at fixing a problem where a corrupted cache would cause problems when viewing e-mails and opening attachments, and a few site compatibility fixes as well,” a member of the Opera Desktop team revealed.

Yahoo Messenger is one of the most commonly used and liked instant Messaging program used worldwide. Continuing the lead by Yahoo, its Im service released a new IM-client, this release is Yahoo Messenger 10. Yahoo messenger has been there for over a decade now, its popularity has made it a essential to have around. This latest Release by Yahoo is beleived to have fixed a lot of issue and added some very interesting features, one of them is the one-on-one Video chat capability. You can now also make real-time synchronized video calls depending on your internet connection, another one is the new status update tab that updates according to the various webservices you are enrolled in.

Transformation to Hard drives

The year is 2010, its time some thing undergo changes. Technology has never been at ease, it changes everyday, something new turns up and outdates other. Now The Hard drives as we know them , are about to undergo a major format shift, this format shift will be the biggest in the last 30 years. It is being said that by early 2011 all harddrives will change how we the users store our data on them. The HDD’s will use advanced format to achieve this. This enhancement will help store more data, more effeciently & while conserving power usage. But the problem arises when we think that right now many users are still on Windows XP, who dont plan to migrate soon to Windows 7.

“The technology has changed but that fundamental building block of formatting has not,” said David Burks, a product marketing manager for storage firm Seagate.
By change in technology, it means that there were times when the hard drives were just few megabytes in size, and formatting them with a 512byte block partition made a whole lot sense, but what now ? when people are using 1TB ( 1024 GB) as a standard Drisk for their computing needs. This fine resolution on hard drives is causing a problem,manager said, because of the wasted space associated with each tiny block.Each 512 byte sector has a marker showing where it begins and an area dedicated to storing error correction codes. In addition a tiny gap has to be left between each sector. In large drives this wasted space where data cannot be stored can take up a significant proportion of the drive.

Moving to an advanced format of 4K sectors means about eight times less wasted space but will allow drives to devote twice as much space per block to error correction.

“You can get yourself into a corner where you cannot squeeze much more onto the disk,” said Steve Perkins, a technical consultant for Western Digital.

This shift also allows manufacturers to make more efficient use of the real estate on a hard drive.

“We can put more data on the disk,” he said. “It’s about 7-11% more efficient as a format.”
