Where is India on the 3G way

3G in india has been quite late now. 3G devices made their way into our market for quite sometime now. The latest in 3G technology does not seem to work properly. What are india’s hopes for a proper network allocation system ?

Now the auction for the 3G service has started, Nine telecom companies have placed their bids for three pan india licenses that cover 22 regions and the prices are starting from $789m. This particular auction includes the leading telecom agencies like Bharti/Airtel, TATA Docomo & Vodafone etc. The auction is expected to deliver about $8bn.

We know that the government agencies that are providing 3G right now are not much effective when it comes to providing the service. Analysts say that the bidding for the 20-year 3G licenses will be aggressive and could push the total raised closer to $11bn.The battle for spectrum is intense in the fast-growing market where the larger private operators have been restricted in their ability to deliver voice and data services.Allocations to 2G spectrum were halted in March 2009, until the government announces a new allotment method. The 3G services will give mobile phone users the ability to download content such as music and videos at faster speeds.

After two day of the 3G auction 11 companies will bid for the rights to offer broadband service too. for that two slots are available at a floor price of 389.5 million each.
